MAXXXINE. A PERFECT ENDING?

  MAXINE MINX. In early 2022 when 'X' came out, starring the one and only Mia Goth, an obsession flared inside me with these thrilling, disruptive and intoxicating movies that Ti West was a master at. Pearl, released 6 months later, changed my thought process on what I truly thought horror was. That term is thrown around a lot lately, 'real cinema' and 'revolutionary', when the film was more than mediocre at best (e.g challengers, sorry Luca). I always understood horror to be a slasher, with no real depth other than a man who might be unstoppable, slaughtering for no real reason than that he could. But Maxine was different. She drew me in from the second, I sat in the cinema and heard that southern accent. It was something I never knew existed in my world. A female? Who has emotions? Is career-driven? Impossible.
